A Letter To Sir Alex Ferguson

Nov 6 1986 - An angel landed on the hallowed turfs of OT to save United and lead us into the peak of football.

Dear Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson,

As a supporter of one of the greatest clubs in the world, it is hard to be not biased. The praises we tell and the chants we sing in the stands at Old Trafford shows our devoted and unconditional love to you. It is the least we can do to thank your day-to-day efforts by helping your players deal with the omnipresent pressures that fellow footballers face in their personal and professional lives.

However, it feels even better when you are praised by footballers belonging to rivals as well as the managers you face weekly in England and in Europe. To name all would take hours but the amount of respect given to you is unparalleled by none.

For the past 25 years, you have created and recreated teams. You have developed the youngsters of Manchester and now, they are found in almost every list that includes the words "greatest, best, legends, etc."

Your students have now become managers of their own but they still will never forget the help you have done for them. They use you as their role model and example to reach a bit of what you have achieved.

Even though your anger has subsided over the years, your determination to win and to be the best has not reduced. In fact, with every trophy you've won, the fire within has grown more and more.

Ever since you took over and brought Manchester United success, no one has ever stopped praising you. And yet, you still show the humility that can be easily thrown away when someone reaches even a tenth of where you have achieved. Hey, now you have a stand named after you! Many doubted, criticized and complained about you but the best part of victory is proving to those that thought that victory was unattainable for you.

That is what makes one truly a great human being.

I was not alive to experience your entire journey but I am proud to have been part of the whirlwind journey that a United fan is obligated to endure. The defeats, the European Cup defeats, the extremely bad results but also the trophies, the last minute victories, the goals that seem hard to believe, etc.

I am proud to call myself a Manchester United supporter and you are the pivotal reason behind it.

Thank you Sir Alex.
